My Top 5 Albums of 2011

#5. La De Les - Gadfly:

Ambient - Post-rock / Other - Beautiful cascades of intricate music.  Solid theme through out the album.  Plus, they are really solid people.

#4. Of Monsters and Men - My Head is an Animal:

Such a fun album.  Female and male vocals woven through a folky tapestry of sound.

#3. Frank Turner - England Keep My Bones:

Everywhere from edgy rock to sweet ballad’s, Frank covers a multitude of emotions and delivers on each song.

#2. The King is Dead - The Decemberists:

Though it disappointed some long-time fans, I personally found it a very solid folk-rock album.

#1. Thrice - Major, Minor:

Hard Rock - Phenomenal Lyrics - Amazing Live show.  Just listen to it.

Two churches located across the street from each other. At least the Catholics have a sense of humor. lol

 WOW. EPIC CATHOLIC WIN.

I LOVE THIS.

I doubt this is real, but it’s funny.

The second of two new songs i played last weekend at Building One in Muskegon, MI.  It’s a little quiet - but  it is a finger-picking song played completely unplugged…

This is the first ever live performance of a brand new song by Jake Down called “A Plow Broke the Plains (but a Storm Fixed It).

10/01/11 @ Building One in Muskegon, MI.

“A Plow Broke the Plains (but a Storm Fixed Them.)

v1:

It’s been years since there’s been enough water to / keep the dry dirt down /

So the wind she churns up the soil and / she blows it around / she blows us all down /

Chorus:

With cracked earth beneath our feet / and bellies full of dust /

We sing “please oh please / send the rain to us” /

v2:

I saw living water pouring from / that hole in his side / and when i drank i knew i’d thirst no more / and i became alive / for the first time /

outro:

I’m waiting to hear the pitter patter of water on my window (repeat)

…and when I hear the pitter patter of water on my window /

I know the rain will wash it all away and we will be healed.

Treat your ears right. Listen to this album.  Download it for whatever price you want.
(also, if you reblogged this, it would be so great!)

I am working on a new song.  I still can’t play it very well because i’ve never wrote a finger picking song before, and i’m just figuring the melody, but i think it has a lot of potential.
